Short Bio
Sammie Tran is a printmaker based in Des Moines, Iowa. Growing up in Seattle, Tran was deeply influenced by the decorative art that adorned her family home, which sparked an early interest in texture, pattern, and the interplay of form and space. She graduated from the University of Washington in 2016 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Visual Arts.
Statement
Tran combines elements of paper cutting, printmaking, and pochoir in her work, creating a thoughtful exploration of the intersections between different mediums and cultural influences. Now based in the Midwest, she draws inspiration from her new surroundings—particularly the natural beauty of the prairie and the rich craft traditions in the region. Her work is a reflection of both her roots and her evolving connection to the Midwest, blending personal history with a deepening engagement with her environment.
